Baseball fans are nuts about stats and insane streaks, and one of those streaks ended on Saturday thanks to Jose Bautista.

When you ask a baseball fan about a statistic, it’s almost like asking Rain Man to count cards. Die hards will rattle off an insane amount of information off the top of their heads that goes deep into the statistics of the starting shortstop for the Boston Reds on the third Tuesday of August back in 1890.

Stats make baseball interesting, and insane streaks where a pitcher or a hitter continue something for long periods of time tends to attract a lot of attention. That’s where Wade David of the Kansas City Royals was until Saturday afternoon.

In two years, Davis hadn’t given up a home run in either the regular season or the postseason. Two years.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end — even if it takes 707 days for that to happen. In the eighth inning of Saturdays game against the Blue Jays, Davis surrendered his first home run since the summer of 2013.

He almost made it two solid years without giving up a home run, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

While baseball nerds can get a little over zealous about stats sometimes, this is one of those streaks that deserves some time for you to step back and appreciate it.
