Wrestling legend Jimmy “Superfly” Snooka appears to be doing well after a recent cancer scare.

Wrestling fans are among the most loyal in all of sports. They lives and breathe the squared circle and invite the personalities from the mat into their lives. Fake or not, there is a real component to what goes on in the ring and fans recognize that by giving these heroes and villains their undying allegiance.

That’s why when tragedy strikes in the wrestling world, the community comes together with a show of support unlike any other.

Just a few days after the untimely passing of one wrestling legend, Rowdy Roddy Piper, the WWE is again facing some more news about one of their heroes from the 1980’s golden years. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has been diagnosed with stomach cancer, according to SE Scoops.

According to the report, Snuka was diagnosed with the disease and forced to undergo surgery to remove both parts of his stomach as well as his lymph nodes. The good news is that the surgery seems to have been successful and it appears that all of the cancer has been removed at this time.

Snuka rose to fame during the 1980’s during the years of Hulk Hogan, Piper, Andre the Giant, Ricky Steamboat, Ted Dibiase, Randy Savage, and many more. As implicated by his “Superfly” nickname, Snuka became a household name due to his high flying ways, including a memorable moment during a 1982 match with Bob Backlund in which Snuka jumped off of the top of a steel cage in one of the most daring maneuvers of the early WWE days.

Of course for some like myself, WWE was a permanent part of our Saturday morning routine. It would start with Hulk Hogan’s Rock and Roll Wrestling cartoon and continue on into Superstars of Wrestling during the later hours of the day. Snuka was always front and center during those broadcasts, even if he didn’t voice his character in Rock and Roll Wrestling (Lewis Arquette). Like the rest of the WWE, he was ingrained into us at a young age.

Here’s to hoping that Snuka comes out on top of his latest bout and lives a long and happy life!
