Floyd Mayweather confirmed on Tuesday that his next fight will take place on September 12, but will it be his last?

Next: 5 potential opponents for Floyd Mayweather

Immediately after he defeated Manny Pacquiao in their “mega fight” back on May 2, Floyd Mayweather confirmed that he would be fighting at least one more time this September, which is basically right on his normal schedule. Since then, the date that we’ve heard time and time again has been September 12, and it seems like that will be the case.

On his Twitter account Tuesday, Mayweather confirmed that September 12 will be the exact date when he steps back into the ring to try and push his professional record to 49-0.

So we have the confirmation on that now from the man himself, now we just need to find out who he will be there in the ring with. The rumored name that we’ve heard in the past few months has been Andre Berto, and he seems like the most likely candidate. Amir Khan was the one with the outside shot, but there’s a slim chance that’s going to happen.

Then, of course, there are people that would love to see the dream fight against another undefeated fighter, the powerful Gennady Golovkin. But with the weight class difference, that’s even unlikelier to take place.

Finally, people are still wondering exactly how we’ll see Floyd try and push for that 49-0 record. While most of his fights are on Showtime PPV, there’s been rumblings that he could actually fight on free television for Premier Boxing Champions on CBS. While it would indeed be nice to have the biggest name in boxing actually appear for free rather than charge people $100 on PPV, there might be too many obstacles in the way for this to happen.

There are still a lot of questions, but we can’t question anymore when this fight will happen. September 12, Floyd Mayweather will step into the ring against — well, someone.
