Jacksonville Jaguars fans who enjoy taking a trip across the pond each year are in luck. According to The Times, the Jaguars will continue to play at Wembley Stadium through the 2030 season.
"The Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to play an NFL game at Wembley every year until 2030 in a move that will finally put to rest reports that Shahid Khan, the owner of the Jaguars and Fulham Football Club, might be tempted to sell the west London club and buy Tottenham Hotspur to use their proposed new stadium as a base for his American football expansion."
The Times‘ mention of Wembley Stadium is significant due to the fact that the NFL and Tottenham Hotspur recently agreed to a 10-year deal that will see National Football League games played at the EPL franchise’s new, multi-surface stadium. The contract will go into effect in 2018, when Hotspur’s stadium opens. There had been some roundabout chatter that Jags owner Shad Khan planned to flip his current EPL club, Fullham F.C., for Hotspur and then use the new stadium as a bargaining chip to move the Jaguars to London. As The Times notes, with news of the Jags remaining at Wembley, those rumors, while very juicy, are officially bunk.
The NFL’s International Series began in 2007 with a game at Wembley between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. Since that time, 11 games have been played in London. The Jaguars began playing one annual home game per season in London in 2013, and have yet to claim victory in their adopted stadium. This season they will host the Buffalo Bills at Wembley on October 25.
