It’s only August and times are rough for the Washington Redskins. Working behind a seemingly non-existent offensive line, Robert Griffin III was knocked out of Thursday night’s preseason game when Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Wootton fell on him in the second quarter.

Griffin was treated by trainers for a stinger and a head injury. Following the game, head coach Jay Gruden stated that the quarterback’s shoulder was okay, though he also acknowledged that RGIII had suffered a concussion.

"“Robert, he had a concussion. He’s following concussion protocol at this time. We’ll get him further examined and see what we have to do.”"

On Friday morning, ESPN reporter Britt McHenry, citing sources with the Redskins, tweeted that RGIII is “fine” and that the timetable for his return is next Saturday’s game against the Ravens.

Per the NFL’s concussion protocol, RGIII must pass a neurological exam and show that he has returned to “baseline status” in both “cognitive and balance functions.” He must also be cleared by the team physician and an independent neurological consultant.

The Redskins will travel to Baltimore for Week 3 of the preseason on Saturday, August 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
