Derrick Rose is in the middle of a very serious rape allegation, and his legal team is moving fast to distance themselves from what was reported on Wednesday night.

The sports world was shocked late on Wednesday night when it was reported by TMZ that Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose was being sued for allegedly gang raping an ex-girlfriend and sexually abusing her while they were dating. The allegations are extremely serious and while this is coming to light two years after it all supposedly happened, that doesn’t mean that it’s not true and that Rose isn’t facing a very serious situation.

Even if unfounded, the fact that Rose is now attached to a rape case is something that will stick in the minds of fans long after a resolution is brought on. To fight the claims in the suit — which is a civil suit and not a criminal investigation by police — Rose is firing back that nothing which was stated in the lawsuit is true and nothing ever happened.

Rose responded to the allegations through a statement, with part of it stating that what has been alleged by the plaintiff are ‘meritless’.

"Two years have passed since Mr. Rose ended the consensual relationship with the plaintiff, and her claims are as meritless now as they were two years ago. We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous."

The victim in the suit alleges that Rose and his friends gang raped her while she was dating the Bulls star two years ago and that Rose tried forcing her to do other sexual things in front of his friends — which she refused.

Rose denying the allegations in the suit isn’t surprising — what is he supposed to do? That doesn’t mean this is going away or that Rose isn’t guilty. Not all of the facts are in yet, but this is a situation to watch extremely closely. If Rose is found guilty of having raped an ex-girlfriend, it would be one of the worst black eyes that the NBA and that humanity in general has ever been dealt.
