Mets pitcher turns the play of the year with a heel flick (Video)
By Mike Dyce
The New York Mets might have just turned the best defensive play of the year.
The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies were squaring off on Thursday night in a game that went to extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th inning with Phillies’ Jeff Francoeur at the plate, the Mets turned one impressive defensive play. A 1-3-1 for an out at first.
Francoeur hit a ball right up the line at Mets pitcher Carlos Torres. The ball caught Torres’ foot and went to Daniel Murphy at first base, who then flipped it back to Torres who was running to the base to get the out. It didn’t appear to be unintentional either, it looked like Torres was going for the heel flick.
And Francoeur was beat and out to end the inning.
Apparently there is no rule against using your feet in baseball.

The Mets brought a 6.5 game lead in their division into Thursday night’s game. They certainly seem to have a bit of magic working for them this year.
