Steve Smith might have the best son ever

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. was ejected from the first quarter of his team’s preseason game against the Washington Redskins Saturday night and ended up being able to watch the game with his son, Peyton, for the first time ever. Peyton shared the momentous occasion on Twitter.

What prompted the ejection? In a move more suited to the WWE than the NFL, Washington LB Keenan Robinson jackhammered Ravens WR Kamar Aiken into the ground head first. While Robinson won points for creativity and effectiveness, he lost as many for jackassery and reckless disregard of a fellow human’s spinal cord.

Awarded zero points for his insane on-field maneuver, Robinson and the rest of the players could have continued the game. But, nope.

Here’s where Smith and Redskins CB Chris Culliver came in with plans of their own. They turned the field into an octagon, shoving and grappling until a referee channeled his inner Herb Dean, stepped in and broke up the melee.

The animosity, ill-will, and general disgust with the scene prompted Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to spew angry words at Washington coach, and hater of RGIII, Jay Gruden.

In the end, both Culliver and Smith were ejected, and Smith was able to enjoy the rest of the game from the comfort of the stands with his son.

If an ejection seems unusual in an NFL game, keep in mind that fighting and sportsmanship are rules of emphasis this year in the NFL. So, we may see referees handing down more serious consequences for altercations this season.
