New York Jets center Nick Mangold helped police stop string of 48 burglaries

The New York Jets rely on center Nick Mangold to protect their quarterback. Mangold has been a Pro Bowler six times over the course of his career for his prowess at his position. He’s apparently now also in the business of protecting his community in addition to Jets quarterbacks.

According to ABC7 in New York, Mangold was sitting in his New Jersey home last week when he heard his car alarm going off. Naturally, he went down to check out what caused his alarm to go off and saw his garage door open. That prompted the center to dial 911.

As the report states, Mangold’s call led to a vehicle being stopped near the lineman’s home. That eventually resulted in the arrests of five suspects who had tried to steal his car. He wasn’t the lone victim, though, as the perpetrators had been on a spree of car burglaries, breaking into 48 unlocked cars in the Chatham Township area of New Jersey where Mangold resides.

While calling 911 isn’t the same as Mangold suiting up in black leather and dishing out vigilante justice, his call undoubtedly saved the area a great deal of worrying and strife.

As far as those five individuals who were arrested go, they should be thankful that they got out of there before Mangold himself caught them. Whether you’re a burglar or not, getting on the bad side of an NFL offensive lineman isn’t something that’s advisable at all.
