College football is so close we can almost taste it. There’s a nip to the air in some parts of the country, and the best season in sports is breathing down our necks.

Adding to all the anticipation is the below trailer for the new Showtime series A Season with Notre Dame Football. If this thing doesn’t give you the feels, then check your pulse. Shot like HBO’s Hard Knocks, the program will provide an inside look at one of the nation’s premier programs. Here’s a teaser of what we can expect.

Perhaps the best part of this entire series is that it will play out in real time during a season that has real boom/bust potential. The Fighting Irish enter the year ranked No. 11 in both the AP and Coaches poll, and are a trendy pick to make the College Football Playoff at season’s end. Their schedule isn’t too daunting – Texas and USC are both home games, and the most difficult road contests are Clemson on October 3 and Stanford on November 28.

And yet, the whole ship could go under. The Irish are right in the sweet spot of being a squad that overachieves its way to title contention, or one that crumbles in every big game. We might have an insider’s glimpse at a championship team; we might watch the firsthand downfall of Brian Kelly, who has regressed each season since reaching the BCS Championship Game. If nothing else, we’ll get plenty of the red-faced Kelly and likely one solid motivational speech per week. Fingers crossed somebody pipes in the music from Rudy at some point.

The show’s first episode will air on Tuesday, September 8 at 10 p.m. ET, three days after Notre Dame’s opening game against Texas. It will be a part of Showtime’s football block, following Inside the NFL.
