Georgia Bulldogs head coach named Greyson Lambert as his starting quarterback

The Georgia Bulldogs are coming into the 2015 college football season with predictably high expectations. Ranked ninth in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Bulldogs look to once again be a force in the SEC. The only question that remained before this week was who would be taking snaps at quarterback to start the season. Head coach Mark Richt answered that on Monday.

According to Southern Pigskin, after the Bulldogs practice on Monday, Richt announced that University of Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert will be the starting quarterback for the Dawgs. Lambert has been battling with Brice Ramsey for the starting job after Ramsey served as the backup for Hutson Mason last season in Athens.

The report also said that, though Lambert will be QB1 for the Bulldogs heading into the season, he and the coaches are still open to the possibility of another quarterback getting first-half snaps on Saturday in their season-opener against the University of Louisiana-Monroe. Richt didn’t specifically say which quarterback he wanted to give those snaps to, but one has to assume it would be Ramsey.

Lambert dropped to the number two spot on the depth chart this offeseason at UVA before transferring to Georgia after starting eight games last season for the Cavaliers. He wasn’t overwhelming by any stretch as a sophomore last season, throwing for 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions at UVA. However, as long as he can improve on his turnovers and adequately feed the pigskin to running back Nick Chubb at Georgia, he’s more than capable of leading the Dawgs to a successful 2015 season.
