The Washington Redskins have named Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback for the entire 2015 season, not just the season opener.

After quarterback Robert Griffin III suffered a concussion, which looked like it would hold him out of the season opener. On Monday, head coach Jay Gruden told reporters at a press conference that Kirk Cousins would be the starting quarterback for the opener, and the remainder of the season.

This is just the latest incident in the never ending Griffin vs. Redskins/Gruden saga that is going on. There were reports over the weekend that the coaching staff preferred Cousins to Griffin and were ready to turn the page on the RG3 chapter.

That appears to be true.

“We just feel that Kirk has earned the right to be the starting quarterback for 2015,” Gruden said.

Gruden tried to remain complimentary of Griffin and downplay any tension within the team.

Robert’s on our football team… we believe in Robert,” Gruden said. “It’s a good problem to have to have three quarterbacks competing and working their butts off.”

Griffin reiterated that at the end of the day Cousins was simply the better quarterback, and he won the job, Griffin didn’t lose it to injury.

“I think all three quarterbacks should be commended for their efforts, their willingness to get better, but when it’s all said and done … we feel like at this time Kirk Cousins gives us the best chance to win,” Gruden said.
