Over the course of the past few years, the Stanford Cardinal have been one of the more prominent college football programs in the nation. Beginning with Jim Harbaugh rebuilding the program a few years ago, Stanford has risen their way to near the top of the college football world with the help of some amazing players that have come through the program.

Well, the top of the college football world is not the only place those Stanford players have taken the Cardinal. No, their impression on the program is still being felt in the NFL.

According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects jersey sales both nationwide and online, former Stanford players have the Cardinal near the peak of jersey sales in the NFL, coming in at the No. 2 spot just behind the Florida Gators of the SEC.

With two polarizing players such as Andrew Luck and Richard Sherman leading the charge, it’s really not all that much of a shock Stanford nearly has the most NFL jerseys sold of their former players.

Since arriving in the league in 2012, Luck has shown year in and year out that he will one day, more than likely, be the best quarterback in the NFL. With the Indianapolis Colts have more and more success each season, his popularity only continues to grow. Sooner or later, his sales might push Stanford into that No. 1 spot.

As for Sherman, well, again, it’s not all that much of a shocker he’s pulling in some monster numbers. A key piece of a Seattle Seahawks defense that has helped lead the organization to two straight Super Bowl appearances, Sherman is one of the best in the game. Also, it helps that he’s one of the more outspoken players in the game, something that sits pretty well with some fans.

If Andrew Luck and Richard Sherman continue to make the marks on this league that they are, it will not be long until Stanford is the top dog on this list.
