The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly working on a trade to send the former University of Southern California star to the desert, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is also reporting that the trade is now official, with the Eagles receiving a conditional seventh-round pick from Arizona, provided Barkley remains on the roster for six regular-season games.

The real story in all of this? It would open up a third spot on the quarterback depth chart for the Eagles, and that means Tim Tebow. Get ready for ESPN ti literally explode. We might see them provide us with breathless wall-to-wall coverage on how Tebow is about to revolutionize the position from the bench. It should be riveting.

Arizona making a move for Barkley makes some sense. The Cardinals have an established starter in Carson Palmer who they gave a three-year extension to last year, but he has shown the penchant for being injured. When Palmer went down with a shoulder problem last year followed in December by a torn ACL, Drew Stanton stepped in. Both times, Stanton was hurt, which led to Logan Thomas and Ryan Lindley, respectively. Lindley is now on the New England Patriots, while Thomas remains Arizona’s third-string quarterback.

Thomas looked horrible at times in the preseason, perhaps making head coach Bruce Arians a little bit uneasy about his quarterback depth chart. Barkley has never started a game during his three years with the Eagles, always sitting behind Mike Vick, Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez.

It seems this trade should work out well for the Cardinals if karma is involved. The last time these two made a trade that involved a quarterback, Arizona acquired Kevin Kolb and gave up draft picks along with corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
