Conor McGregor welcomes a bout with Frankie Edgar

It was recently revealed on MMAFighting.com that Conor McGregor plans on fighting Frankie Edgar in the near future. Of course, McGregor must first defeat Jose Aldo at UFC 194, and that’s no guarantee. Nonetheless, a matchup between Conor McGregor and Frankie Edgar would be intriguing to say the least.

Frankie Edgar has called out McGregor in the past, and Frankie is scheduled to replace Jose Aldo should an injury occur. Conor McGregor is currently the biggest draw in the UFC, and it’s clear that Frankie Edgar wants to knock him off his pedestal. Edgar is one of the most skilled fighters in the sport.

At UFC 189, Chad Mendes proved that it wasn’t impossible to put McGregor on his back. It’s also quite obvious to me that Mendes would’ve had a much better chance against Conor with a full training camp. Nonetheless, Conor McGregor is currently the cash cow, and he runs the show. However, Frankie Edgar may prove to be the Irishman’s kryptonite.

UFC President Dana White feels that it’s inevitable that Conor McGregor will move up in weight. McGregor struggled to make the featherweight limit against Chad Mendes, but the Irishman feels that he has a few more fights left in the division. Fortunately, Frankie Edgar can fight at lightweight or featherweight. McGregor and Edgar are destined to meet, but the timing is not set just yet.

On December 11, Frankie Edgar will face Chad Mendes in the main event of the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale. On December 12, Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo will main event the stacked UFC 194 card. If Conor McGregor can defeat Jose Aldo, the world will truly be at the Irishman’s feet. Victories for Edgar and McGregor would set up their potential superfight.

Frankie Edgar has looked very impressive in his last few fights. Edgar is also the former lightweight champion of the UFC, and he has much more championship experience than Conor McGregor.

Edgar may want this fight for more than financial gains. Frankie Edgar is a true warrior; he never quits, and he has an endless gas tank. In their third fight, Grey Maynard landed bombs on Frankie Edgar’s chin, but Edgar somehow managed to come back and win the fight by knockout.

Conor McGregor is a very skilled striker and he has incredible accuracy. McGregor is also very powerful, but Frankie Edgar’s footwork, boxing, and wrestling ability could be enough to defeat “King” Conor McGregor.

Should Conor McGregor even worry about Frankie Edgar just yet? There is a lot of unfinished business left between Jose Aldo and the flamboyant Irishman. Is there a chance that Conor McGregor is overlooking Jose Aldo at all?
