The Major League Baseball Wild Card action gets underway on Tuesday night with the New York Yankees hosting the Houston Astros.

The 162-game Major League Baseball season is officially over and now the real action begins with the MLB postseason. Ten teams begin their journey toward baseball immortality, each looking to be the last one standing when the dust settles on the 2015 World Series.

The action gets underway on Tuesday evening, when the American League Wild Card kicks off the party with a match-up between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros in the Bronx. With one game determining moving forward to face the Kansas City Royals or going home to break out the golf clubs a bit earlier, both teams are certain to leave everything on the line.

For the Yankees, they will send right-hander Masahiro Tanaka to the mound in front of the home crowd and New York will hope their ace is dealing like one. He’ll be offset by Houston ace Dallas Keuchel.

After a brilliant, but shortened rookie season in 2014, the Yankees were counting on Tanaka to take a step forward this season. However, the import battled arm issues and consistency throughout all of 2015. While he still managed a solid 12-7 record with a 3.51 ERA and a 3.98 FIP, Tanaka only made 24 starts on the season including eight starts in which he surrendered four or more runs and another six in which he surrendered multiple home runs.

On the other side of the ball, we have Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel led the American League with 20 wins on the season, ranked second only to David Price with a 2.48 ERA, and fifth in strike-outs with 216. Those numbers speak to the consistency that the lefty displayed throughout 2015, with only one start being less than five innings and only three in which he allowed more than five runs.

However, consistency and dominance have no bearing in a one and done, win or go home match-up. It comes down to dialing it in and being the force that the team needs on the mound. Which will be the dominant force on Tuesday night? Which line-up will get to the opposing pitcher quicker?
