The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Josh Johnson on Wednesday morning, while placed cornerback Jalil Brown on the Injured Reserve list. The move suggests that Andrew Luck might still be smarting from his right shoulder injury and could miss Thursday night’s game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, as talked about by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Head coach Chuck Pagano might want to give Luck a few extra weeks of rest. Last Sunday, the Colts were able to survive against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium, winning 16-13 in overtime. Jacksonville had two opportunities to make game-winning field goals, but each time narrowly missed. The AFC South is a horrid division, perhaps another reason to rest Luck before Indianapolis enters its stretch drive.

While winning without Luck won’t be easy on the road – even against a bad Texans team – the alternative might be worse. Houston does have a good defense with the great J.J. Watt and dangerous Jadeveon Clowney coming off the edges. Indianapolis has struggled to block at all this season, leading to Luck’s injury.

If Luck can’t play, it will be Matt Hasselbeck getting his second straight start. Hasselbeck was decent against Jacksonville last week, completing 30-of-47 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Considering how inept both Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer are, that type of performance could be enough to earn another victory.
