Matt Barnes reportedly attacked Derek Fisher because Fisher was dating Barnes’ ex-wife

File this on under things that you never thought you’d see, but NBA veteran and Memphis Grizzlies wing Matt Barnes reportedly confronted and attacked New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher this weekend. There is not a typo in that sentence; an NBA player attacked another team’s head coach.

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred on Saturday in Los Angeles at the house of Barnes’ ex-wife and “Basketball Wives” star, Gloria Govan. Fisher and Govan have been dating for a few months and the Knicks head coach was at the house having a get-together in the backyard. It’s also important to note that Govan and Barnes lived in the house together at one point.

That detail is important because, while the Grizzlies were 95 miles away in Santa Barbara for training camp, Barnes got wind of Fisher being at his former house with his ex-wife. He then got in his car and drove to the house (again, 95 miles away) and confronted Fisher on the spot. The attack wasn’t severe and was described only as “a few scratches” and Fisher reportedly isn’t going to press charges.

Barnes hasn’t exactly been a model citizen on or off the court. The Post brings up his 2010 arrest due to suspicion on domestic violence. It doesn’t mention Barnes’ infamous tough-guy act on the hardwood that has been known to instigate an altercation or two.

It appears that the only legal action that may come of this is Govan filing a restraining order against Barnes and we’ll see if there are any repercussions brought down by the league, but that doesn’t make it any less ridiculous. When Fisher missed Knicks practice on Monday due to “personal reasons,” no one thought anything of it. It now seems like he missed practice because a player from another NBA team tried to kick his ass for dating his ex-wife.

Someone get the Knicks their own soap opera.
