After taking a swing at Los Angeles Lakers center Roy Hibbert, Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker has been suspended for the first game of the regular season.

After a preseason contest between the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers in Hawaii got unnecessarily confrontational the other night, the league has handed down a punishment stemming from the on-court incident between Lakers center Roy Hibbert and Jazz forward Trevor Booker.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the league has suspended Trevor Booker for the first regular season game for taking a swing at Hibbert’s head.

It all happened during the exhibition contest when Booker and Hibbert got tied up on the court. Obviously there were some issues stemming between the two and it caused Hibbert to get in the face of Booker. It was clear that Booker didn’t like that at all and he proceeded to take a swing at Hibbert’s head. He hit him with an open hand but it only appeared to graze Hibbert and not cause any damage. Hibbert would proceed to laugh it off as he was pulled away.

The punishment for Booker is just one game and they probably interpreted his swing as more of a slap, because if it was a punch that connected, then it is likely Booker would be serving a major suspension like players in the past that have gotten into fights on the court. Booker was ejected immediately from the game and Hibbert was given a technical for also being in there.

It’s not a huge blow to the Jazz as they will get their enforcer back after their season opener against the Detroit Pistons is over. The Utah Jazz have quietly assembled one of the most young impressive rosters in the last couple of seasons. Having a veteran presence like Booker is important for them and they will have to go for win number one on the road without him.
