No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs vs. Kansas State Wildcats

After some struggles ahead of them in the rankings last week, the TCU Horned Frogs moved up to the No. 2 spot in the country and they are starting to look like a legitimate title contender after so much uncertainty following a below average defensive performance in a slim win over Texas Tech the week before.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 50-7 blowout of the Texas Longhorns while Trevone Boykin continues to impress. The Heisman-hopeful quarterback is leading this team to the top as they’re now 5-0 through the first month of play.

Unfortunately for Kansas State, the Wildcats’ only legitimate opponent defeated them in week five as Oklahoma State narrowly defeated KSU. The Wildcats didn’t look all that impressive despite the close 36-34 loss, though, as they didn’t pick up too many yards on offense and had a tough time trying to stop Mason Rudolph’s aerial attack.

The Kansas State secondary will have its hands full in this one as the Horned Frogs have one of the best passing attacks in the country, averaging about 396 yards per game through the air.

Keys to Victory

TCU Horned Frogs

Airing it out will be key if the Horned Frogs want to come out on top in this one. Oklahoma State absolute lit up the Wildcats’ secondary for over 440 yards through the air, but TCU has a much more dominant offense.

If Boykin can get the ball to Josh Doctson in the same way he has through the team’s first five games, there will be no problem defeated the Wildcats on the road. Doctson might be the best receiver in the country right now, catching 42 passes for 722 yards and eight touchdowns. Unreal.

Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State might not have a dynamic offense with the likes of TCU’s, but the Wildcats have a slightly better defense. If the Wildcats can somehow blanket Doctson in the passing game and put pressure on Boykin, they will have a shot to upset the Horned Frogs.

Unfortunately, the defense can only do so much as whoever starts at quarterback this week, whether it’s Kody Cook or Joe Hubener, will have to get the job done through the air, but the ground game will have to open that up first. In order for Kansas State to even have a shot, it will have to rack up at least 450 offensive yards, and that’s not very likely.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: TCU -10.5
Moneyline: TCU -410, Kansas State +340

Prediction

TCU’s offense is just going to roll over Kansas State despite the Wildcats’ home-field advantage. Last time the Horned Frogs played on the road against an inferior opponent, they nearly lost, but were bailed out by a tip-touchdown in the final minute of play. Kansas State doesn’t have the same type of weapons Texas Tech does, though. This could be ugly.

Final Score: TCU 41, Kansas State 24
