The Chicago Bears have shown they’re not afraid to blow the roster up, but has that forced Alshon Jeffery to request a trade?

Things are hot right now in Chicago, even though it’s the dead of fall. The Cubs are cruising in the postseason, the Blackhawks are back chasing the Stanley Cup and even the Bears are starting to turn things around after two straight wins. But this recent string of winning comes after the Bears attempted to tank their way to the top of the draft order by starting to blow their roster up.

Brandon Marshall was traded in the offseason — before the earl-season purge the front office had with Jared Allen and Jon Bostic — but his absence is something that is weighing on the conscience of Alshon Jeffery. ESPN’s John Clayton went on ESPN1000 this morning to talk about the state of the Bears, and he mentioned that Jeffery isn’t ‘100 percent happy’ without Brandon Marshall.

Whether this was conjecture or fact was lost on those who took Clayton’s words at face value and leaped to the conclusion that the wide receiver wanted a trade.

NFL Netwwork’s Ian Rapoport tried to straighten things out, correcting a Twitter follower who brought this quote up to him.

This doesn’t mean that he’s not on the trade block, as the Bears are still teetering on the fence of blowing things up or trying to compete. When they shed Jared Allen and Jon Bostic, it was clear that they weren’t sold on contending this year but two straight wins against the Raiders and Chiefs have the Bears back at 2-3 and back in the hunt in the NFC North.

Chicago has a number of players they’d probably trade before Jeffery, but we also have to remember that we haven’t yet seen the combination of Jeffery and rookie Kevin White on the field at the same time. That could change up the dynamic of the offense, and could help Jeffery feel more comfortable.

But if you’re thinking that Jeffery wants a trade out of Chicago after two straight wins, then you might want to relax a little and revisit these thoughts later.
