Kendrick Perkins is the most unlikely offensive wizard ever

When everyone was getting amped up to watch the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans take battle to help kick off the 2015-16 NBA season, the hope was that we were about to be treated to a superstar battle between Stephen Curry and Anthony Davis to start the year. Instead, we started off with a first-quarter battle between Curry and the most unlikely of foes: Kendrick Perkins.

Perkins, who even at his peak was never an offensive stalwart and is now well past his peak, signed a one-year deal with the Pelicans this summer. With Omer Asik out, Perk got the start and began the game looking like freaking Wilt Chamberlain:

If Kendrick Perkins having post moves and beasting up one of the best defensive big men in the game is the work of new Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry, just go ahead and give the man Coach of the Year honors. He made Perkins into an offensive player, even if only for a couple of plays.

Perkins actually had a couple of other impressive first-quarter buckets, but was unfortunately unable to put points on the board consistently. Once this team gets healthy, though, having his physicality in presence in addition to him possibly being able to score occasionally in this system could prove to give New Orleans a huge boost.
