LSU, according to an inside source, told ESPN’s Joe Schad that a buyout of head football coach Les’ Miles contract is “a very good possibility”.

According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, the Les Miles Era of LSU Tigers football may be coming to an end, as a “high-ranking source involved” in the coaching decision believes a buyout of Miles contract could come at the end of the season.

LSU has lost their last three football games under Les Miles (Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss). While losing to three major rivals of the program in succession hurts considerably, what hurts even more is that LSU was at one point the No. 2 team in the nation, according to the initial College Football Playoff standings of 2015. LSU had not lost three straight games since 1999 before Saturday’s defeat to Ole Miss.

In another interesting development, the boosters of the LSU Tigers football program have agreed to pay the $15-20 Million necessary to buyout Miles and his entire coaching staff.

Rumors surrounding the turmoil in Baton Rouge have begun to pick up steam in recent weeks. LSU has supposedly grown tired of Miles’ quarterback issues, recent SEC defeats, and press conference antics. Many have tabbed current Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher as the top replacement of Les Miles should he no longer be the head coach of the LSU Tigers.

Supposedly, how LSU performs on Sunday against Texas A&M at home has little to no bearing on if the Tigers keep Miles in Baton Rouge. Should LSU move in a different direction from Miles, this vacancy then becomes the most lucrative, available gig in all of college football.
