After videos surfaced of Johnny Manziel partying during the bye week, the Cleveland Browns‘ quarterback has been demoted to the third string.

Just when it looked the Johnny Manziel-era was set to begin in Cleveland, it’s looking like the party is about to be over for Johnny Football.

After Josh McCown got banged up a few weeks back, it looked like Manziel was going to be the full-time quarterback for the Browns going forward, as they turned to him to see what he could do for the future. Well it doesn’t appear there is much of a future after all, as the Browns have officially demoted Johnny Manziel to the third string after off-the-field actions according to a statement from head coach Mike Pettine.

Earlier, video had surfaced of Manziel partying it up during his bye week. While that’s nothing new for a player during a bye week, it’s incredibly disappointing for the Browns and Manziel, as they put a lot of trust in him to prepare for the future and lead the team, especially after prior incidents and distractions.

Not only has Manziel lost his starting job, but according to Ian Rapoport, Manziel will also be demoted to the third string, while Austin Davis becomes the second-string quarterback behind Josh McCown.

It’s certainly always a sad situation, when a player can’t seem to get things turned around. In the case of Johnny Manziel, it was looking like he was finally going to get his chance in this league to make a mark. Unfortunately that mark he’s going to leave is one of partying his career away, as it would be hard to see anyone wanting to bring in someone that could be a major distraction in Cleveland.

At this point it’s hard to see the Browns giving him many more chances. Not when they’ve already given him plenty of chances, only to get burned in the process by their good faith him.

Turn out the lights… the party’s over.
