Bengals’ Wallace Gilberry buys a PS4 for lucky family in line.

For professional athletes, Thanksgiving and Christmas are a time to show their true community outreach, regardless of publicity. Wallace Gilberry of the Cincinnati Bengals did just that, buying a PlayStation 4 for a family in line at Target.

On Tuesday November, 24th, Gilberry walked into a local Target store in the Cincinnati area and purchased a PS4 along with a lot of games for a family in line. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant did something similar a couple of years ago.

This random act of kindness seems to reflect the uphill battle that Gilberry has experienced in his football career. He wasn’t recruited highly out of high school and was working at an IHOP before getting invited to play in an all-star game that got him noticed and subsequently an opportunity at the Universtiy of Alabama.

Seeing a guy like Gilberry doing great things in the community without getting the publicity, is telling that Gilberry believes in what he is doing, choosing not to use kindness to promote himself. Guys like Gilberry who go unnoticed behind the likes of Cam Newton deserve their place in the spotlight too. The genuineness that comes with little acts like these provides some hope to fans on the quality of NFL players. So remember guys like Gilberry this Thanksgiving when watching football, not the likes of Greg Hardy who show NFL players in a negative light.
