Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has been officially ruled out of this Sunday’s game.

Second-year running back Devonta Freeman has been excellent for the Atlanta Falcons this season. He has rushed for 764 yards and an NFL-best nine touchdowns while catching 62 passes for 420 yards, providing the Falcons with their best running back production since Michael Turner was around.

Unfortunately, Freeman has been banged up lately. He got knocked out of the first quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with a head injury, which turned out to be a concussion. He has not practiced since.

Well, it looks like the concussion will be keeping Freeman out of the Falcons’ upcoming game.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, the Florida State alumnus has been ruled out of this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings due to the injury.

This is obviously bad news for the Falcons, who will now have to rely on the likes of Tevin Coleman and Terron Ward to fill production at the running back position. It also places extra pressure on quarterback Matt Ryan to deliver this Sunday. Their game has big implications with a Wild Card position the goal of the Falcons.

Hopefully for the Falcons, Freeman will be able to return soon, as they will face the perfect Carolina Panthers in two of the next four games.
