Rockets center Dwight Howard banked in a hook shot from half-court in pre-game warmups

The Houston Rockets have been struggling in a big way to start the 2015-16 season. The addition of Ty Lawson this offseason, a move that was supposed to take them to the next level, hasn’t worked out for them and the team has noticeably lacked chemistry. However, there may not be a bigger issue than Dwight Howard’s lingering injury concerns. The big man was ready to go on Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers, though, and put on an entertaining display in the pre-game warmups.

Howard, not exactly a player known from his long-range abilities with the basketball, had a rack at the center circle. He started just throwing shots up, including a hook shot from that distance. As improbable as it may be for anyone to make that shot, much less Dwight, the big man banked home one of his attempts:

Dwight can’t hit above 60 percent of his free throws, but he’s apparently got the half-court trick shots on lock. That seems pretty fitting for the Rockets this season.

In all seriousness, Howard may be the key to the Rockets picking things up this season. If he’s unable to remain healthy and provide Houston with the rebounding and interior defense they lack so desperately without him, they aren’t getting anywhere close to the heights they reached last year.
