LeBron James recently honored a long-time fan that passed away with cancer with an Instagram tribute and writing on his shoes.

Despite the business that comes along with being credited as the best current basketball player on the planet, and all the fame that comes with being LeBron James, he always seems to find a soft spot in his heart for young fans battling tough situations.

When LeBron was on the Miami Heat, he brought along a girl named Ebony who was battling cancer to hang out with him prior to tip-off of one of his games. She had the chance–as a high school point guard–to warm up with the team, and also stand with the pro athlete during the national anthem.

Just recently, however, Ebony has passed away and her struggle with cancer has ended.

LeBron posted the above picture following Ebony’s passing. He ended it with a hashtag #TheHellWithCancer. In addition to this post, he also wrote “R.I.P. Ebony” on his game sneakers with sharpie, a common practice by pro players when they lose someone who has greatly impacted their lives.

James has a spot in his heart for situations like this. Earlier this season, James sent a care package and heartfelt letter to a high school fan with muscular dystrophy. No matter what you think of the player on the court, he clearly is a nice guy when it comes to feeling for tragedy and illness.
