Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr thinks it’s insane that Luke Walton isn’t getting the credit that he deserves.

The Golden State Warriors are off to an extremely impressive 16-0 start to their season. They’ve done that despite head coach Steve Kerr taking a leave of absence from being their head coach due to complications from his offseason back surgery. Assistant head coach Luke Walton has filled in for Kerr while he recovers and has done a phenomenal job.

However, there’s an issue. Steve Kerr is still technically listed as the Warriors head coach. That means that the Warrior’s first 16 wins this season are being credited to Kerr instead of Walton. While Kerr has served a role that is on par with an assistant head coach while he recovers, Kerr thinks that it’s extremely disrespectful to Walton to give Kerr Walton’s wins.

“I think it’s ridiculous,” Kerr said, via ESPN. “I’m sitting in the locker room and watching the games on TV, and I’m not even traveling to most of the road games. Luke’s doing all the work with the rest of the staff. Luke is 15-0 right now. I’m not. So it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, to be honest with you. I don’t even understand it.”

Steve Kerr brings up an extremely good point. While he is still listed as their head coach, Walton should probably be given the credit for those 16 wins (they’ve won one since the interview happened) that he has coached the Warriors to. Walton seems indifferent about the issue.

“Steve’s done a lot for me,” Walton said, via ESPN. It’s the least I can do to add a couple wins on his total for him with all he’s done for me.”

Walton could get a consolation prize to being a winless head coach despite his team winning 16 games under him. He’s done such a phenomenal job stepping in for Kerr that he is likely going to get head coach offers.
