Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Stanford Cardinal

The No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to get back into the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings when they visit the No. 9 Stanford Cardinal at Stanford Stadium in one of the most critical games of rivalry week.

Notre Dame is 11-1 with a narrow road loss to No. 1 Clemson as the only blemish on its strong resume. Even though they are out of playoff position for now, a convincing win against Stanford could be enough to vault the Irish to the top four.

The Irish have been dealing with injuries all season and likely will be without star running back C.J. Prosise on Saturday, That’s going to put a lot of pressure on backup Josh Adams and quarterback DeShone Kizer to move the ball on the tough Stanford defense.

Stanford can also still make the playoff, although it would require a lot of help elsewhere. The Cardinal have clinched the Pac-12 North at 9-2, but a loss to Oregon two weeks ago reduced their chances of making the top four to a long shot.

Running back Christian McCaffery and quarterback Kevin Hogan lead an ultra-efficient Stanford offense against one of the toughest defenses it will see all season. McCaffery set a school record with 389 all-purpose yards last week against Cal and remains on pace to break Barry Sanders’ single-season mark.
