Ohio State dominated Michigan in The Big House in a one-sided rivalry matchup

Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines had high hopes for Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Big House for their annual rivalry clash. The Buckeyes entered the game coming off of their first loss on the season and with Michigan looking like a dangerous two-loss team in the college football landscape. Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes looked completely rejuvenated after a debilitating loss last week, though, and absolutely bullied their rivals all over the field on Saturday.

The story of the game begins and ends with Ohio State’s ability to rush the ball. After Ezekiel Elliott called out the play-calling in the loss last week when he only got 12 carries, the Buckeyes fed their Heisman candidate the rock and he led the way all day long. Quarterback J.T. Barrett got in on the rushing action as well, picking up a number of key chunks of yardage and crossing the goal line three times.

Ohio State’s defense led by Joey Bosa also ruined Harbaugh’s day as they completely shut down De’Veon Smith and Jabrill Peppers running the ball. Though Jake Rudock performed admirably, Bosa and the Buckeyes pass-rush was just too vicious and was in the Wolverines quarterback’s grill almost every time he dropped back to pass. The Buckeyes, for the first time in a while, looked like the defending national champions and may have played themselves back into the College Football Playoff picture with a resounding rivalry win.

Three stars

Ezekiel Elliott was perturbed that he didn’t get the ball enough in the Buckeyes last game, so Urban Meyer fed him like crazy in this rivalry matchup. Elliott capitalized with a monster day as he took 30 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

J.T. Barrett threw for a touchdown and 113 yards on the day, but he made his impact largely using his legs. The quarterback joined Elliott with a monster rushing day of his own as Barrett ended the day with 139 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Joey Bosa looked every bit like an NFL caliber pass-rusher in this game as he caused Jake Rudock and Michigan all kinds of hell all game long. Bosa also racked up a forced fumble and an interception to his credit, as well.

Odds

Ohio State were one-point favorites in this game, a spread that they comfortably covered in the resounding victory. The Buckeyes almost hit the over on 46.5 points by themselves, but the two teams easily did in combination.

Next Week

Both the Buckeyes and the Wolverines will await to find out their postseason fates as this rivalry game concluded the regular season for both teams.
