The Arizona Cardinals looked to continue their hot start to the season while the San Francisco 49ers looked to end a cold spell.

42. 19. 32. Final. 13

Not many people were giving the San Francisco 49ers a shot to beat the 8-2 Arizona Cardinals, but divisional battles are always played tough, and this one was no different.

Carson Palmer didn’t have his best game, but did just enough to lead the Cardinals to their ninth victory of the season despite losing both Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington to injuries in the third quarter. Running back duties were put squarely on David Johnson’s shoulders and he did an OK job.

It’s still weird to not see Colin Kaepernick starting at quarterback for the 49ers, but Blaine Gabbert played well in his place. It’s obvious, though, that the loss of Carlos Hyde has hurt the offense quite a bit.

This turned out to be a great game that came down to the wire. The Cardinals have a pretty large lead in the NFC West with a 9-2 record while the 49ers have fallen to 3-8.

Three Stars

Carson Palmer didn’t only look solid with his arm, completing 24-of-40 passes for 271 yards, but he added a nice touchdown run of eight yards that sealed the deal.

John Brown led the way at receiver for the Cardinals, catching eight passes for 99 yards and looking like a potential No. 1 wide out.

Blaine Gabbert may have been on the losing side of things, but the former second-stringer completed 25-of-36 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown against a tough Arizona defense.

Highlights

Odds

Arizona was a 7.5-point favorite and the over/under was set at 45 points. The Cardinals didn’t cover the spread and the over was not achieved, either.

Next Week

The Cardinals will be hitting the road to face the St. Louis Rams on Sunday afternoon. If the Cardinals win that one, it will extend their lead in the NFC West even further.

San Francisco will travel east to face the Chicago Bears in an NFC battle. Chicago has been red-hot lately and the 49ers are looking to gain some confidence.
