The referee in Buccaneers-Colts doesn’t know if it was a catch or not

NFL referees are criticized fairly often, most of the time by the team or fans of the team on the wrong side of a call. Even in a bad call, you can’t forget that officiating an NFL game is one of the hardest jobs in the world as the action happens so fast. Though it slows down games, replays have lessened the burden on refs a great deal in recent years. However, reviewing a catch only seemed to make on official’s job more difficult during the Week 12 matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts.

After a passing play, the ruling on the field was that the Colts had thrown an incomplete pass. They challenged the ruling and the refs went into the booth to look at it. That’s when things got tricky as the referee came out to make his ruling and just left everyone confused:

Unless he just hates the Colts and wanted to fake them out on the call, this ref is going to want to make sure he knows what the call is the next time he steps up to the plate. Otherwise, he looks silly and no one has any idea what is going on.

Despite the confusion and, ultimately, the ruling of an incomplete pass being upheld on this play, Indianapolis still went on to pick up a needed win over Tampa Bay.
