Houston Rockets vs New York Knicks

Watching Kevin McHale get the boot just over a month into the season had to be difficult on the Houston Rockets. The head coach had high hopes for this season as playoff runs had come to screeching halts way too early for the past couple of years and it seemed like 2015-16 might be different. However, the Rockets are only 6-10 roughly one-fifth of the way through the season.

You might look at James Harden’s numbers and say he’s having a great year for the Rockets, but his shooting percentage needs to improve for this team to succeed. He is, however, averaging 30.1 points, 6.4 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. The absences of Dwight Howard and Patrick Beverley have messed with the chemistry a bit, though.

On the other end of the spectrum, the New York Knicks have been somewhat surprising, opening the year with an 8-9 mark in the Eastern Conference which happens to be the stronger of the two leagues thus far. New York was in a prime position to move up in the conference before recently losing three straight games. This could be the perfect chance to end that skid.

Carmelo Anthony has been his solid self, but the real story for the Big Apple’s favorite team has been the rookie, Kristaps Porzingis. While the decision to draft the big Latvian-born player received a ton of criticism, he has silenced all doubters, averaging 13.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, seemingly leading the NBA Rookie of the Year race.
