Entering this contest, it’s plainly apparent that both teams need a win. However, it’s for exceptionally different reasons.

For the road Vikings, a victory would help erase the flavor of defeat from last week’s tail whooping at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. Since that game, the Vikes have been handed a nice little holiday treat. Green Bay was beaten in Lambeau Field by the Chicago Bears, meaning that the NFC North is still well within striking difference. It’s up to the Vikes to hold serve, get a win and really drive this mother home until the season finale against the Packers.

As for the home Falcons, well they just need a tourniquet. After jumping out to a 5-0 start on the season, Atlanta has lost four of its past five games and is in a dire state. The division is pretty much an afterthought, and now it’s all about respectability and maybe a Wild Card berth for the Dirty Birds.

This game could have serious playoff implications come Weeks 16 and 17.
