Free agent pitcher Zack Greinke has yet to decide between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As winter approaches, that means the MLB hot stove is about to heat up. With free agent pitcher Jordan Zimmerman now off the market after signing with Detroit, teams looking for a pitcher will turn to Zack Greinke. The two teams that seem to be frontrunners for the former Cy Young Award winner just happen to be bitter rivals. The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers are both ready to get a deal done with the pitcher now.

ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick tweeted on Monday that the market for Greinke has quietly heated up, and both LA and San Francisco are looking for an answer.

Greinke is coming off a fantastic season with the Dodgers, but chose to opt out of the remaining three years of his contract with the team after losing to New York in the National League Division Series. He finished with 200 strikeouts and a record of 19-3. His 1.66 ERA led the majors and was the second lowest in the storied history of the Dodgers.

Despite his success with the Dodgers, Greinke is currently exploring the market. LA and San Francisco could find themselves in a bidding war, as both clubs are in need of a big-time arm to sure up their rotations.

Madison Bumgarner of the Giants and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers are both the aces of their respective clubs, but adding the likes of Greinke will likely make that team the favorite this year in the National League West for the upcoming season.
