The Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James says he regrets the fact that he never got to face off against Kobe Bryant in the NBA Finals.

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant are two players that have shaped the game of basketball in the last decade. Both have had a profound impact on the game, and will go down as legends and hall of famers someday. But there was a battle between the two that should’ve occurred that never did: The NBA Finals.

This match up is one that should have happened since James was drafted into the NBA. Coming out of high school, he was brought onto his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although he was unable to win a championship there, he stayed in the Eastern Conference, even when he moved teams to the Miami Heat. Kobe stayed in the West his whole career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Both Bryant and James have been to a fair share of title series, but it never worked out for them to get to one in the same season to play each other.

Talking to Dave McMenahim, James expressed remorse over the fact that the two never met up.

"Since ’07 either he has or I’ve been in the Finals but we’ve never matched up. And that definitely sucks."

James went on to say that he was the one who didn’t hold up his end of the bargain. He also expressed that he was upset he let fans down, too.

"I know the world wanted to see it. I wanted it, we wanted it. He held up his end and I didn’t hold up my end, and I hate that. I hate that that didn’t happen."

Bryant is set to retire after this season, and although technically the two teams still could meet up in the Finals, Kobe’s 30% shooting and the Lakers 2-14 record shows that it probably won’t occur.
