The San Diego Chargers have fined safety Eric Weddle for watching his daughter perform during halftime.

The San Diego Chargers really aren’t big on family values.

Actually, they really aren’t big on anything, except taking a team away from their fans and woefully underachieving. With the Chargers looking like they’re going to be leaving San Diego, the team had an emotional home finale a couple of weeks ago, where they dismantled the Miami Dolphins.

During that game, Eric Weddle played with his heart on his sleeve for the Chargers and even stayed over an hour after the game to sign autographs for all the fans in attendance, as they possibly watched their final Chargers game in San Diego ever.

So how did the Chargers decide to repay the safety that has given them everything? By fining him $10,000 of course. During the game against the Dolphins, which the Chargers easily had in hand, Weddle’s daughter was performing during the halftime show.

Weddle decided to stay out on the field and support his daughter during her big moment. According to the San Diego Tribune, Weddle did not inform the team that he would be staying out to watch his daughter, so they fined him a nice big chunk of change.

"The team last Tuesday informed Weddle he was being fined $10,000 for remaining on the field Sunday to watch his daughter perform during a dance ceremony at halftime of the game between the Chargers and Miami Dolphins."

With Weddle set to be a free agent after the season, it is clear that he is probably not going to be returning to the franchise. What’s even worse is that the team’s season was clearly over and they came out playing great in their potential final home game, but they still decided to fine Weddle anyways.

If they had been losing and were fighting for something else, it would have been a completely different story. They weren’t in that position and were throttling the Dolphins. Weddle should have been allowed to be out there to support his daughter.

He isn’t a rookie or a new player on a new team either. Weddle is a veteran that has given his best years to the Chargers and knew the importance of the final game in San Diego. Yet, for being a dad he was fined $10,000, which speaks more about the franchise than anything else. Hopefully other dads around the league will stand with Weddle.
