According to a journalist from the Sunday Times, Cristiano Ronaldo is so upset at Gareth Bale’s world-record transfer fee of $125 million that he was told not to mention it in articles.

On Monday, Real Madrid announced that they had sacked head coach Rafa Benitez in favur of club legend, Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman may have more on his plate than he may have expected though, as it appears that two of his star players are not on the same page.

In a recent interview with BBC 5Live, Sunday Times correspondent Jonathan Northcroft claimed that Real Madrid asked him not to mention the transfer fee they paid for Gareth Bale. According to Northcroft, it upsets Ronaldo so much so that the club would prefer that it did not get discussed.

"“Real Madrid are a club so worried about image that when I interviewed Bale it was requested to me, ‘don’t put in the transfer fee, don’t put in the article how much Gareth Bale cost,’” said Northcroft.“The reason for that is because it was a world-record transfer fee but Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t like to see that someone else cost more than him.”"

The Welshman arrived to the Santago Bernabeu in September, 2013, for a world-record transfer fee of $125 million. Los Blancos ended up winning the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey in Bale’s first season with the club, but apparently that hasn’t stopped Ronaldo from becoming obsessed with the money the club spent on his services.

With Zidane now at the helm, it’ll be interesting to see whether Ronaldo’s attitude towards his teammate starts to change.
