Twitter is expanding its character limit to 10,000 — but what does that even look like?

Social media was set ablaze this week when it was reported that Twitter is set to expand its character limit and basically become the new Facebook.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Twitter is going to expand from 140-characters to 10,000-chracters.

The initial fear here is that Twitter’s new Facebook-like approach will inundate our feeds with novellas about the random crap you read on Facebook about how a dog with one leg and three eyes was abused but found the light in the darkness — or something stupid like that.

Our breakups are about to get more real on Twitter, the rants against presidential candidates are about to become manifestos and the Best Fans in Baseball — well, they still need to figure out how to count to 140-chracters first.

So yeah. This is what Twitter might turn into in the future. Of course, not everyone is going to max out their Twitter blurbs, but there will be those who get very liberal with their newfound freedom to do so.

That being said. The real thing to think about here is how this might push Twitter journalism to the next level. You can only tell so much of a story in so many character — and allowing responsible journalists to break news in more than 140-characters is going to be interesting to watch unfold.
