The Flyers have reportedly traded center Vincent Lecavalier and defenseman Luke Schenn to the Los Angeles Kings.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been trying to rid themselves of their expensive contracts since last summer. They have purged one of the wrost ones in Vincent Lecavalier. The Flyers have traded Lecavalier and defenseman Luke Schenn to the Los Angeles Kings.

They’ll be getting a third round pick in 2016 and prospect Jordan Weal from the Kings.

Lecavalier has a cap hit of $4,500,000 a season through the 2017-2018 season while Luke Schenn has a cap hit of $3,600,000 and will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. The trade helps both sides. The Kings get some forward depth and some defensive depth. The Kings have long needed defensive depth. Getting Schenn should ease the burden that Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin carry on a nightly basis.

That should make them more effective and help prevent fatigue. Vincent Lecavalier could be a reclamation project for the Kings. He gives them some depth at center and at wing.

The Flyers get some much needed cap space and they continue to rebuild their prospect system. Weal is a solid depth forward at worst and still have some unique upside to his game. It is not known what year the third round pick is in, but it is simply icing on the cake for the Flyers.
