The Indianapolis Colts have named Rob Chudzinski their permanent offensive coordinator.

There were a lot of questions about the Colts coaching staff heading into this offseason, what with Jim Irsay wanting to neuter Chuck Pagano for the season he turned in and all.

But after going on a vision quest together, Pagano and Irsay worked things out and rather than breaking up decided to have another kid together — or, at least, the NFL equivalent. Irsay clearly hasn’t come down from the vision quest he went on with Pagano and is continuing to make coaching decisions that are interesting, to say the least.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Colts have named interim offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski the permanent owner of that position.

This isn’t the worst decision ever but it’s no doubt an interesting one that isn’t a slam dunk in any way. Chud got a bad break when the Cleveland Browns fired him after just one season, despite the fact that he actually didn’t do that bad of a job.

He was also the offensive coordinator for Cam Newton’s formative years in the NFL, to which Chuddy might be able to take some credit for the current success. His resume doesn’t light you on fire though, as none of his Panthers teams were that explosive and his history with the Browns offense isn’t glowing either.

That being said, the Colts have a matured franchise quarterback in Andrew Luck — something Newton wasn’t yet in Carolina and Cleveland has never had. That could be the element that makes this work, but who cares.

Jim Irsay doesn’t really care, which means this might end up working out in his favor.
