Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh missed a chip-shot field goal that would have beat the Seahawks

All that Blair Walsh had to do in the NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks to push his Minnesota Vikings team into the next round was convert on his fourth made field goal of the afternoon. However, that proved to be far more difficult than expected for Walsh.

Considering that Walsh had already made two kicks from over 40 yards out on the afternoon, the 29-yarder with less than a minute left to give the Vikings the lead should have been nothing. However, with holder Jeff Locke not fixing the laces on the hold, the cold weather, and everything else involved, Walsh pushed the kick wide left:

With neither team having any timeouts left to their credit, the Vikings had to watch the clock run out on their season after the Walsh miss and accept a 10-9 defeat at the hands of the Seahawks.

Minnesota has certainly experienced their fair share of heartbreak in the NFL Playoffs, most famously with another kicking blunder by Gary Anderson. After not missing a kick all season, he missed a 38-yarder that would have essentially sealed a win in the 1998 NFC Championship game.

This one is going to hurt for a while and there’s no way to sugarcoat that for Vikings fans. Just stay bundled up in the frigid temperatures and try not to let your tears freeze.
