Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald shouted out ESPN’s Chris Mortensen after win over Packers

The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Green Bay Packers in their NFL Playoffs matchup on Saturday night in spectacular fashion. After conceding the tie as time expired thanks to an Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary, the Cardinals got the ball and drove 80 yards in three plays (all three with Larry Fitzgerald on the winning end). However, Fitzgerald wasn’t interested in just talking about himself after the game.

While he was being interviewed in the post-game, Fitzgerald took the microphone and his time on the airwaves to address an old friend: ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. It was announced earlier on Saturday that Mort would be taking a leave of absence to deal with a battle with throat cancer. Subsequently, Fitzgerald took the time to send his thoughts and love to Mort during this time after the big win for the receiver:

That’s just about the classiest gesture that you’ll ever see from a professional athlete. That’s not to indicate that they are all heartless, but many of them wouldn’t think to send good thoughts and prayers to a member of the media that covers them, yet Fitzgerald did just that.

More than that, I think we can all join Fitzgerald in sending those good thoughts to Mort as he continues his fight with this disease.
