John Scott has been named the First Star of the week by the NHL despite not currently being on an NHL team

John Scott’s magical ride continues. He is technically not on an NHL roster, as he is in the American Hockey League and plays for the St. John’s IceCaps. That didn’t stop the NHL from naming him the first star of the week for his epic weekend in Nashville.

Is it sort of awkward seeing the NHL do a complete 180 degree turn from their initial thoughts about Scott being in the All-Star Game? Sure. But it’s nice that the league has realized the error of their ways and it’s hilarious to see how quickly the league has changed their minds on him.

John Scott was named the NHL All-Star Game MVP after leading the Pacific Division as its captain to the three-on-three tournament championship with two goals against the Central Division. Scott had five career goals in the NHL before this weekend.

Cam Atkinson had four goals and five points while leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to back-to-back wins over the Montreal Canadiens. Three of those four goals came in one game with a hat trick. Jack Eichel had two goals and two assists for four points to help the Buffalo Sabres split their set of games last week.
