The Philadelphia Eagles and running back DeMarco Murray are at odds again.

Last offseason, the Eagles traded away former All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy. To fill the gap, former head coach Chip Kelly brought in DeMarco Murray, who had led the league in rushing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2014.

Murray was inked to a five-year, $40 million contract with $21 million guaranteed. Instead of becoming a superstar in Kelly’s offense, he was a complete disaster, rushing for 702 yards and six touchdowns. Murray was limited in his role and became visibly frustrated with his play, something that has reportedly carried over to the new regime, per Ian Rapoport.

Frankly, Murray might as well settle in, because he isn’t going anywhere. The Eagles could try to trade him, but at $8 million per season for a running back, good luck. Philadelphia could also release him, but his 2016 cap hit would go from $8 million to $13 million. There is no way that is happening. The best option for both sides is for the Eagles to keep Murray, give him the ball 250-300 times this season, and hope he produces.

Philadelphia was set big in a major way by Kelly last season, who went all in with both Murray and corner Byron Maxwell on a six-year, $63 million deal. The result was a 6-10 season, with Murray and Maxwell arguably being two of the worst signings in franchise history.
