The Washington Wizards probably won’t be sellers at the deadline.

It hasn’t been the season that the Washington Wizards thought it might. An early season injury to Bradley Beal set the team way back but they’re still on a trajectory that looks to be carrying them to the postseason.

But just making the playoffs isn’t good enough anymore, as the Wizards want to make a deep run and establish themselves as an Eastern Conference force. That might mean selling off some assets like Jared Dudley or Nene to secure future assets that assure the John Wall/Bradley Beal window isn’t a short one.

According to NBA scribe Chuck Myron, the Wizards aren’t yet in a position to be sellers at the deadline:

"Washington still has a chance to make some real noise in the playoffs, and maybe even get to the conference finals, believe it or not. The East, behind the Cavs, is wide open. Not time for a sell-off yet."

This doesn’t mean they won’t be selling something at the deadline but they won’t be looking to dismantle anything just because they’re not soaring in the East. There isn’t a whole lot of separation in the East right now, whether that be the Cavs and Raptors or the intense fight for the spots below them.

Washington could very well ned up with the No. 3 seed in the East this year, which isn’t anything to sneeze at. They may not be equipped for the long term yet, but things aren’t that desperate in Washington just yet.
