The NFL is putting together a game in Mexico between the Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders.

The Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders are going to play a regular-season game in 2016 down in Mexico, according to Tania Ganguli of ESPN. While the exact date and time are unknown, this would be the first time a regular-season contest has been played in Mexico since 2005.

Houston is the host of the game, so it would be playing one of its eight home dates away from NRG Stadium. This would be the first time that the Texans give away a home date, something that we have regularly seen from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills over the past decade.

The National Football League has not been shy about wanting to expand its international reach. Currently, the league is playing three games annually in London, England and could be trying to put a permanent team there. Considering the attendance figures across the sport, along with the recent relocation to Los Angeles, it could mean more expansion.

Of course, the NFL already has 32 teams, the most of any professional league in North America. This game is likely more about drumming up interest in Mexico than it is about trying to gauge whether or not it is a viable market for permanent residence.
