Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters was named the 2015 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Marcus Peters had one of the most incredible seasons ever for a rookie defensive back. Lining up against the best wide receivers that the league had to offer on a weekly basis, Peters quickly established himself as a shutdown corner and a superstar in the league.

At the NFL Honors on Saturday night, Peters was named the 2015 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. On the season, Peters had an astonishing eight interceptions and a forced fumble. He also returned two of those interceptions for two touchdowns.

With great secondary members around him and a great scheme, Peters was put in position to succeed right away for Kansas City and he answered the call. He had an interception in each of his first two games of the season and his breakout moment came on a pick-six off of Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning in Week Two.

He would be a key in the Chiefs’ turnaround in the middle of the season and quarterbacks quickly learned to start throwing to the other side of the field. That didn’t stop Peters and he still made the plays when his side was thrown at.

Peters had one of the all-time great rookie seasons for a defensive back and the future is bright for him.
