Timofey Mozgov thought he was going to throw it down hard, but got denied hard by the rim instead

Considering that the Cleveland Cavaliers traded two first-round draft picks last season to acquire center Timofey Mozgov, you would think that the big Russian center would play a much larger role in what the Cavs do than he currently does. While that may have something to do with the way that the league plays smaller for the most part in the modern era, it might also have something to do with the rim being able to effectively defend Mozgov.

On Monday night, Mozgov had an open route to the rim down the middle of the lane and the big man went hard at the rim with the intention of slamming home a thunderous dunk. Instead, the Cavaliers center threw it down hard on the front of the rim and was promptly denied his two points in the most embarrassing fashion:

In case you’re thinking that might not look quite as bad from another angle, think again:

Someone write in that rim for Defensive Player of the Year. I’d venture to say that the rim at least has Mozgov’s vote for the award.

Mozgov has a rough history in regards to dunking, as his name has been made into a verb that means to get dunked on viciously, brought into the NBA dictionary by Blake Griffin. Even still, this might be even worse than that.
